NEHAWU KZN Mourns The Passing Of Former Provincial TVET Bargaining Coordinatgor, Comrade Musa Mpungose

Wednesday April 06, 2022

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in KwaZulu-Natal is shocked and saddened by the brutal assassination of our Shopsteward from Mthashana TVET College, Comrade Musa Mpungose, who served as a Provincial Coordinator for the TVET sector. Comrade Mpungose was brutally shot by unknown men on Saturday, 02 April 2022.

Comrade Mpungose was a remarkable, dedicated and selfless leader in the execution of all his responsibilities in the union. Comrade Mpungose served in a number of positions in the union, from being elected as a Branch Chairperson, Regional TVET Coordinator and later as a Provincial TVET Coordinator. We are poorer without him in the labour movement, He was a champion of the working class and an outstanding campaigner for better working conditions particularly in the TVET Sector.

We note with disgust that such brutal killing occurs at a time when Comrade Mpungose was currently attending his arbitration case, represented by the union for his unfair dismissal by the college. We know that Comrade Mpungose was a thorn in the college, fighting for transparency and fair treatment for all staff members, particularly members of NEHAWU.

Comrade Mpungose was a patriot, a leader of principle and pragmatism who gave meaning to the struggles of the working class. NEHAWU in the province calls upon the law enforcement agencies to work tirelessly and around the clock to find and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime. His death should never go in vain and hence we are appealing to the law enforcement to find those murderers and those who are behind this despicable act and throw away the keys. We want to reiterate that no member or leader of the union should ever be intimidated or prohibited from exercising his/her labour right.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, comrades and colleagues. We hope they will find solace in the knowledge that Comrade Mpungose fought a good fight. We wish them strength and fortitude during this difficult time of bereavement.

Rest in Peace “Khuba, Tetemane, Gawozi, Mnukwa”, the struggle continues.

END
